40th Annual Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride® Lights Up the Night
Event hosted by Hostelling International (HI-USA) San Diego to raise money for youth engagement programs
August 3, San Diego, CA: Cyclists of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend the 40th Annual Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride® on Saturday August 3, 9pm to 2am at Liberty Station/Naval Training Center. This year’s new starting location also means a new, primarily flat, 17-mile route along San Diego’s picturesque waterfront and historic areas. Check-in starts at 9:00pm and the ride begins at midnight.
Having grown from a few hundred local riders to over 1,000 participants, highlights include a costume contest and a light-your-bike contest. Food trucks, face painting, and local vendors will add to the fun atmosphere.
The San Diego Police Department is supporting the riders and SAG vehicles will be on hand. Support for this year’s ride also comes from the Port of San Diego, the County of San Diego and the Navy Medical Center.
"This ride is an excellent way to feel the community spirit of hosteling and enjoy a route fully supported for cyclists." says a Teresa O’Bannon, Community Engagement Manager for HI-USA San Diego.
The Light-The-Bike contest winner will receive a new bike from San Diego Bike Shop. The Best Costume award is two free tickets on Alaska Airlines. All registered winners will be entered to win other fabulous prizes.
This event is one of many HI-San Diego initiatives that raise money for community programs to teach young people about travel and inter-cultural awareness. All proceeds benefit classes and hands-on learning provided by the hostels.
Advance registration for the bicycle ride is $35 for adults and $20 for ages 12 and under through Active.com . Registration the night of the event is $40.00. For more information and to register visit www.sandiegomidnightmadness.com or call Teresa at (619) 338-9981 ext. 13.
