Greetings!
Welcome to the January 2008 edition of the San
Diego Council Hostelletter - our online newsletter.
To help all, especially the young, gain a
greater understanding of the world and its
people
through hostelling.
| Featured Hostel: HI-St. Agatha, Cyr Cove - Maine |
 |
|
This recently opened hostel has a cozy feel and
room for 12 guests in its cabin style lodgings. This
hostel is perfect for small groups that are looking for
outdoor adventure. Cyr Cove is located on the
northeast flank of Morin Mountain, overlooking Long
Lake. Moose, bear, fox, deer, and many game birds
are frequently seen in the 35 acre wood lot behind the
cabins. There are 1½ miles of walking and skiing
trails. The Franco-American and Native American
culture is a unique part of northern Maine - experience
it at the many summer festivals in the area.

| Cultural Kitchen gets Cooking |
 |
|
Girl Scout troops from San Diego and Tucson will
come together to celebrate world cultures at our Point
Loma hostel on February 23. The troops are
completing the HI-USA Cultural Kitchen program,
designed to expose young people to the world beyond
their communities and appreciate cultural diversity.
Over the past few months, the girls have been
learning about culture through hands-on activities and
researching new countries in preparation for their
overnight stay at the hostel. During their visit, the girls
will prepare a meal of Indian and Turkish cuisine to
share with hostellers, and give a cultural presentation
for the guests. The next Cultural Kitchen program for
Girl Scouts will be held on April 12th at the Point Loma
hostel. For more information or to get involved with
the program, please contact Laura at

stories, we have signed copies of her book "Tales of a
Female Nomad" available for purchase at the Council
